Friend Makin Monday: My Best Date Ever

Hooray for the return of Friend Makin' Monday!

Amber's question today revolves around The Perfect Date.

Oh, I can tell you what my perfect date is.  See, it already happened.  But I would not be averse to it happening again!

Picture it: Orlando.  2009.  A young couple on their first anniversary returns to the scene of the crime, as it were.  The place where they had the greatest and most memorable meal of their entire honeymoon.  The restaurant in question? The California Grill, atop The Contemporary Resort at Walt Disney World.

Just saying the name sets my heart a-flutter!

Let me show you pictures of what made that 2-hour meal spectacular...

It's little touches, like the confetti on our table to celebrate our anniversary, that make WDW so dear to me.

Grilled chicken and heirloom tomato flatbread.  Oh, the goodness.

Spicy Kazan Roll.  Our favorite roll of all time.  In the middle there, underneath all the tempura yumminess, are little baby scallops in spicy sauce.  Amazing.  I might cry.

Rob enjoyed seared scallops with homemade gnocchi in a pear and bacon infusion...

...while I enjoyed some of the best sushi EVER.

Another cute little touch...

We sipped our after-dinner drinks...

 ...and enjoyed the view.

Once dinner was through, we went back to our room and sat on the balcony....

...And watched the fireworks over the Magic Kingdom while eating slices of wedding cake which we had so carefully packed away.  After all that dinner, I think I managed a bite or two.  But it was important to at least give it a shot after lugging it all the way there!  You can read about all of that nonsense here.

That was my best date ever.  And I wish I could go back to it! But here's to more awesome dates in the years to come.

Thanks, Amber, for hosting another FMM and for giving me an excuse to drool over these pictures again and become lost in the memories...

So let me ask you, sweet readers: What is YOUR idea of The Perfect Date?

Wow. That is an amazing date. Not sure I ever had one quite that good. Savor that on those not so great days... that'd do it for me.

I did read this posting the other day Jen, but at the time, I could not pick just one great date to share. Still can't.

True, over the just shy of thirty years of our marriage, and the preceeding three years of dating, there have been dates which have only been 'just okay'. But there have also been just as many dates which while what we did was nothing special, the date itself rated as wonderful, due to how much we enjoyed each other's company, how much laughter we shared, how amazingly close we felt to one another by the end of it.

Some of the extra special dates that come to mind, were times of just the two of us off exploring some small town, and a 'hot' (wink, wink) night afterwords. But there are other extra special dates we've had where our kids were even with us (during the day, not later on of course ;-p).

So I'm sorry, but I can't narrow it down to one event to share. All I will say is a piece of advice - always take time for dates!!! "Life" happens on an all to frequent/regular basis!!! Dealing with/coping with life never ends, just sometimes changes course. You got married because you liked and loved one another and wanted to spend even more time together. Don't let "life" stop that!!!

There were times when our sons were really young, when we had dates at 10:00 at night, after all of them really were asleep, eating whatever that weeks 2 for $2 special was at the Little Ceasars down the street, but doing so to keep to our promise to make time just for one another!! Yes, it's made a difference! A BIG one!!!

sorry, I'll step down off of my soap box now ....

I'm writing for you. I'm speaking to you.

So I would like to hear from you in return. Did that story make you laugh, or think? Does that recipe look good? Do you relate to me or totally disagree?

Let me hear what YOU think!
