I is for Icicles and...I!

I am not entirely sure what to post in my "I" entry today!

Immediately I thought about these icicles which were hanging off the eaves of my father-in-law's house prior to our moving in.  I saw them on one of the days we stopped by to move things into the attic and I couldn't believe how huge they were!

That side of the house is the one that gets all the sun, so it stands to reason that the snow on the roof would be melting and refreezing all day long...

Seriously as thick as my wrist!

I sure don't miss them! Now the snow is a goner and the patio is clean (that's a subject for a whole other post!) and we have the grill and patio furniture and even tiki torches.  We are definitely trying to usher in the warm weather!

Then, after thinking about the icicles, I thought about..."I".  As in myself.  My favorite subject.

Just kidding.

I am learning a lot about myself lately.

I am learning that I do have drive when it comes to achieving my goals.

I am working hard to keep the house in order, most of the time, and it IS possible to do so.

I am capable of asking for help when I need it, and help is available when I do.

I don't have to do it all, and no one expects me to.  No one has as high a set of standards for me as I do, and I only disappoint myself when I set the bar too high and don't reach it.

I do have people in my life who care, and I am so lucky to have them.

I do have the best husband in the world, but I knew that already.  (Hon, seriously, I'm just trying to get a comment out of you here! C'mon!)

I am allowed to have desires and wishes, and it's okay to voice them and not be afraid.  And there are special people in my life who do care whether or not I see those things through.  I've always had this idea that it wasn't right to want things for myself.  Even something as simple as wanting to have a garden - I told Rob the other night that I didn't want to do it anymore.  In reality I felt bad thinking of spending time doing something I wanted to do as opposed to something I had to do.  It felt...frivolous.  Stupid.  And you know what? He was sad for me.  And I realized that it was okay to have things for myself, and that people who really care about me will want the same things I do.  Seems simple enough, but I forget that.  A lot.

I am just happy to be here!

It's important every once in a while to sit down and take stock and see where you really are as opposed to where you only *think* you are.  And I'm in a very good place, all things considered.  Life could definitely be much worse - I am very deeply blessed.

I am looking forward to seeing what everyone else's "I" posts are today over at Jenny's!

And I'm looking forward to posting later on about a certain bread made with bananas that I baked several days ago.  Needless to say, the bread is gone.

But the memories...oh, the memories...

You'll wanna come back for that.  Seriously.  It would be in your best interests.  ;-)

Holy Cow! Those are some SERIOUS icicles. Makes me think of the movie A Christmas Story and the fib little Ralphie told his mom about his glasses :) Thanks for stopping by, my husband is a born and bred South Philly native. I lived there for about 15 months right after we got married. But I soon convinced him that the South was a great place to raise a family. Plus, it's a whole lot warmer lol. Kathy

Well Mrs. B...icy and self-centered? Just kidding. You know I wondered about posting on Insects, and whether some might avoid because of mild phobias and such...I am glad you visited and were brave enough to venture a bit closer into their alien world. Nice post on the Icy "I"...Peace

hi Jen :-}
"I" is also for incredible. I find it incrediable just how many blogs out there, are owned by people named Jen!!! I was commenting on this to "my" Kate the other day. I HAD to tell her about the name of your blog and all .... both her and my husband totally agreed that the title could a bit too easily apply to me o;-p

See, I am friends with 'Lipstick Jen' (from Lipstick and Laundry [Ca.]) and 'Mexico Jen' (from 11th Heaven's Homemaking Haven), and I think you and I are headed towards being friends. I just have to decide if I'll refer to you as Jen B., or misadventures Jen ;-p

So-o glad that our Icles like that are now a thing of the past!!! "For everthing there is a season ..." glad that "Next!" is arriving!!!

You doing a garden would not be totally a selfish thing. Most definetly others would benefit from it too!!! just a thought ....

Asking for help isn't always easy. But there is a different perspective on it that I struggled to learn, and would like to share with you. You know how blessed you feel after having been able to help a friend? Well, by not asking for help, we are depriving others of being blessed.

I read your previous post about salads. Isin't it funny how certain seasons just make us want certain types of food? If you make a huge pot of golash in July, while they might eat some of it due to being really hungry, they in no way devour it like they do on a cold, drizzlie fall day.

And yet there are other foods most of us like no matter the season. But I best not start listing them, or I'm likely to make both of us too hungry o;-p

Have a good day friend! May laughter be your constant companion today!!

Well I would love to see some Polish dancing and costumes!

I know that the USA is supposedly a big "melting pot". I prefer to think of it as a big pot of vegetable soup. You can still tell that the carrot is a carrot and the potato is a potato, but the flavors all mix together and make a very tasty broth. I like it when people feel proud enough to honor their ancestors heritage, while at the same time loving and appreciating the land of their birth, America. (Or wherever they happen to live.)

My daughter had the biggest crush on a young man from Poland for the longest time. He was adorable. He moved here to the USA with his family when he was 4 years old.

Since I live in central AZ, I'm in awe of the icicles because we just don't get them around here. Those things are huge!
Your insightful thoughts are charming and I really enjoyed reading your post.
Thank you for sharing.

Great post! Introspective thoughts are always productive. Also, those icicles are serious indeed. I think they could be deathly.

You know I am so glad that you give yourself permission to feel and say those things! Sometimes we get so caught up in that when we stop we say, "Why the heck am I even doing this!" YOu are way ahead of me on the self realization path, I was much older when I came to some of your conclusions, but I am happier now because of it, as I am sure you are too!

Those icicles are death weapons! Cool! Like if one fell and stabbed someone and it was the only thing keeping them from bleeding out....but then it began to melt....and death appeared to be imminent.......because without the icicle, you would bleed out. But at least you would be outside so you wouldn't make a mess in the house for someone to clean up.

I've been watching too much Grey's Anatomy...it's changed my view of things like icicles and carpentry tools like drills......

Just wanted to say, thanks for stopping by my blog today. I really appreciated it.

Also, this post really spoke to me, well other than the icicles. Central Florida never gets cold enough to do that, unless you put a water hose out to "fake" it. I know what you mean about learning about yourself and learning that it is ok to have wishes and desires for yourself.

Thanks for sharing!

Those are some big icicles. We had that problem in a corner of our previous home where the dryer vent came out. Hubs would go out to knock them off because sometimes they would cause a backup and we would get wet in one of our rooms. I always worried he would knock himself out knocking them down they were so big. So be careful with those icicles!

Those icicles are incredible! I used to have great icicles handing from the roof of my childhood home. I really like the things you are learning about yourself and the way you included them in this post. A very special "I."

We had Icicles like that on our old house. I had to explain to my little boys that it was NOT okay to open the upstairs dormer windows and break the icicles off to have sword fights. Because sometimes those things can be kind of sharp, and they melt on the floor and make it slippery, and, and, and.... I think the boys thought I was just being mean, but I was just being a mom!

I'm writing for you. I'm speaking to you.

So I would like to hear from you in return. Did that story make you laugh, or think? Does that recipe look good? Do you relate to me or totally disagree?

Let me hear what YOU think!
