Full Plate Friday

Sometimes I bite off more than I can chew. I know this.

On Friday my heart starts a-racing and I start coming up with plans and schemes for what I can get done over the weekend. I mean, two whole days! Filled with productive possibility!

Then by Sunday night I feel like a failure because I haven't managed to get done half of what was on my list. I chalk this up to being far too reckless in my planning. I mean, two days seems like a lot when you're on the Friday end of them. But when you're in the thick of them they're really not that much time. Plus a lot of the tasks I plan for myself end up taking way more time than I had anticipated.

Or I just get sleepy and the couch looks really good or there's a movie on that I L-O-V-E and while I've seen it a thousand times (*gives any movie in the "Rocky" series the side-eye*), I need to watch it again or my day will be ruined. Before I know it, it's dinner time and I've wasted half of my day making sure that Rocky still defeats his foe.

I mean, you never know. They could have changed the ending or something and I wasn't informed.

Anyway, with this in mind and with the knowledge that many hours of our Saturday will be spent at our soon-to-be new home, I have compiled this list of things to do this weekend:

1) Laundry - ALL OF IT!

2) Pack up the rest of the decorations and get them ready to be moved over to the new house.

3) Finally sew button back on coat (it's been missing for a week now)

4) Finally hem pant leg (pants have not been worn in at least a month because the entire hem came out one day and I haven't gotten to them!)

5) Finish organizing new kitchen - this entails packing up things that haven't been used in decades and replacing them with my own things. The replacing part hasn't happened yet but should be started tomorrow with things I rarely use, like my rice cooker and blender - who's making smoothies in this cold weather? *UPDATE*: Since I typed #5 we found out that Rob's dad is probably being sent home in three weeks.  Gulp.  So we have to kick it into overdrive...

6) Take pictures of garden beds - this will require its own post once the pictures are taken. The entire house is surrounded by garden beds which are just begging for me to get my grubby hands in them - or for me to get my hands grubby in them. Either way.

7) Possibly work on this wreath over at tatertotsandjello, which has been haunting me with its perfection since the moment I first saw it:

It will be mine.  Oh yes.
If I manage to make this happen I will definitely take pictures!

8) Clean. This goes without saying.

9) Work on crocheting afghan.

So that's what I have on my plate. We'll see how much I accomplish. I'll come back Sunday night and divulge - and I'll be totally honest!

So what's on your plate this weekend?

OMG! That's so much to do. Looks like a differen version of my to do list a few weeks ago. Right now, I'm just not planning. If I get the Small Things done, I'm happy!

I hope you put the wreath in TOP priority. Nothing like creativity to energize you to do the mundane, aka laundry!

I am cracking up because this post could have been written by me. THOSE ARE MY WEEKENDS, TO A T! haha. I make the big plans full of steam an energy on Friday and then on Saturday I'm all "meh...". Is there some sort of energy crack in the world that opens up between Friday night and Saturday morning that just sucks it all away?? there MUST be. That can be the only explanation for it. I totally get stuck into movies on tv that I've seen millions of times before too. I even get sucked into BAD movies! Why??

You sound quite motivated. I hope your plans come to fruition! I have an enormous undertaking in my laundry room as well. Maybe some creative pursuits could energize me too, as long as I don't get carried away!

I do this too...a friend of mine said something to me the other day that has stuck with me...maybe it will help you too...she said, "What goals can you set that are ACHIEVABLE in the TIME you have ALOTTED." Ahhh, the trick. I always set achievable goals cause I rock and can do anything...I just don't set achievable goals that I can accomplish within the amount of time I alot for them.

My plans this weekend involve my hubby, our australian shepherd, a pickup truck and the Washington coast! I feel guilty and our realtor is freaking out because we are in the middle of negotiations on a house sale, but it's my hubby's first weekend off in literally months and he wanted to take me away. :)

You are BAD, BAD, BAD!!!! Now I have to add this wreath to my things to do pile! This is totally, totally sweetly adorable. Don't be so hard on yourself. You have to have down time, too. Take the mending to work and do it over your lunch hour!

My lists used to look like this. . .then I had to do a talk on organization for a MOPS group and I did a lot of research and I came up with a new plan. It is really great. . .it is the "Rule of 3" Only schedule three things in a day. If you have three things scheduled (not "normal" tasks. . .things that you don't do daily) than you may not add anything to the list. If something comes up (your friend calls you last-minute for coffee or something) you MUST cross something else off your list. You will feel SOOOOOO successful when you complete those three things! Then you can relax and you will feel so accomplished because your list is DONE. The "Rule of 3" also applies to your weekly scheduling. . .in this case I was talking to a group of moms and wives so their challenge was to only make plans out of the house three nights a week. Anyway, as completely challenging as this is to an over-achiever like you (and me!) once you get the hang of it you do feel less-stressed and more "free". Today, my three things were church, out to eat with family, and school work. Since that and Sunday chores are now done, I have time for this :) It looks like from the comments section that you were well on your way. . .yea!

Just found your blog! :) I totally feel you on the weekend overstuffing thing--I did that this weekend, too (and it's my birthday weekend!). Now it's 9 pm on Sunday night and I ate peach gummy rings for dinner and I'm trying to clean out the fridge, cook enough food for lunches this week, reorganize the bathroom cabinets because they're driving me crazy, and clean the kitchen after all my cooking. And bake blueberry muffins.

But probably I won't.

I like your idea of a list--yours sounds manageable. And well thought-out. And it's nice to be able to cross things off. Also, that wreath is SO cute!

I'm writing for you. I'm speaking to you.

So I would like to hear from you in return. Did that story make you laugh, or think? Does that recipe look good? Do you relate to me or totally disagree?

Let me hear what YOU think!
