O is for Olives and Olive Oil

It took me a while to come up with what to base Jenny's O post on this week.

Orange?

Oops?

Oh My Goodness?

None of them did it for me.  And since the dog ate my homework last week...(*blushes*)

Then it hit me! Why not talk about one - no, TWO! - of my favorite things?

Olives and olive oil.

*sighs happily*  I love olives.  They are just wonderful.  I'll eat them just about any way I can get them.  Straight out of the jar or can, from an olive bar, on pizza...smothering pasta...

Do you like olives? How about trying some Cheesy Olive Bread? I adapted that one from Pioneer Woman and totally changed my father's life along the way.  It's very powerful.

What about stuffed olives? I had stuffed olives many, many moons ago and it occurs to me now that I need to make them happen again for myself.  They were big, green olives stuffed with garlic and cheese then breaded and fried.  Unbelievable.  Diners have the best food sometimes.

One of my favorite pasta sauces is very simple: Garlic, olive oil, and a little butter in a pan until the garlic becomes fragrant.  Toss in chopped tomatoes (or halved grape tomatoes - my favorite) and cook them til they're softened.  Add in a handful of sliced or whole olives right at the end and a bit of fresh basil.  Even add a little white wine if you're so inclined.  Perfecto!

And olive oil...mmmm....

Golly.  I love olive oil.  Rich, fragrant, golden olive oil.  It's so wonderful.

I use it to dress my salads, dip my bread, enrich my pasta sauces, brown meat...I'm a big fan.  I think if I ever went to an olive oil tasting I'd probably die from excitement.  Sounds dorky, but it's true.

And not to go on again about pasta and how much I love it (gee, I wonder what my P post should be about..?), but simply drizzling olive oil over pasta...maybe some grated cheese...oh, forget about it.  I'm all over that.

I've always wanted to make an olive oil cake.  Have you ever made or eaten one? How was it? It's on my list of Things To Attempt, for sure.

How do you use olive oil the most? If ever? :-)  What about those olives - what's your favorite way to eat them, if at all?

Okay.  Enough waxing rhapsodic over food.  For now, anyway...!

I love olive oil but my husband and I are not crazy about olives, but that olive cheesy bread might have to be our next culinary experiment!

Visiting from New Friend Friday. My husband LOVES olives. I love the name Olive...not that it relates to the topic on hand. I might have to try the pasta sauce recipe. Happy friday!

Hi Jen, I adore olives, too! I've made olive oil cake. Try it. It is delicious.

There is actually an olive oil mill here in Arizona.

They used to have an olive oil bar set up and little squares of bread and you could taste them all. AND they had all kinds of flavored olives, too.

They don't do the tasting anymore but the oil is amazing!

They are even carrying vanilla bean olive oil now...which I haven't tried yet.

Thanks for this tasty post on my little journey through Alphabe-Thursday's Letter "O"!

Outstanding post!

A+

I like my olives stuffed with blue cheese or in a martini.

We use olive oil for everything...mainly salad dressings. I have never tried the olive oil in baking. I am curious....

Ok, I'm weird I know, but I love olive oil and really really don't like olives. I eat olive oil on (and in!) everything.

I love olive oil too, but not straight olives (my boys, however, inhale them). I once heard of a gal who needed pimentos for a recipe; so she bought a jar of olives thinking they grew that way. Anyway.... I love olive oil with humus and pita bread and also in and brushed on my pizza dough.... Oh and pesto....

Hi Jen :-}
I am not a fan of olives, although there use to be a local chain which made these amazing "Olive Burgers", which when accompanied by their hand made onion rings, made for a date night worth swooning for ;-p

Over the years I have trayed up many a olive while working for the caterer!!! Goodness. I also made a lot of 'stuffed olives'.

Hey, knowing just a few things about your taste preferances, I bet you would LOVE the one type of stuffed olives. Buy the over sized olives. Drain well. While draining, open a jar of finally chopped pimentoes. Drain it. Then add the drained part to cream cheese. Sprinkle heavily with fresh, real, grated parmesan cheese. Use a sprayed pastry blender and blend together till smooth. Use paper toweling to spread the olives out on and pat dry. Use a baby food sized spoon to stuff the cheese mixture into the olives. Refrigerate for about an hour before serving. We used both black and green olives for this seeings how some people like one type but not the other. Enjoy :-)

I like olives in moderation. I usually reduce the amount called for in a recipe.

So I would like to hear from you in return. Did that story make you laugh, or think? Does that recipe look good? Do you relate to me or totally disagree?

Let me hear what YOU think!
